As we consider God’s blessings, we are in awe of His immense goodness toward us. The greatest gifts to us are His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior and the constant presence of His Holy Spirit working in the Church and in our lives. God also gives us everything from the beauty of the earth and stars, to the air that we breathe to our very lives themselves. He also endows each of us with personal gifts, talents and material possessions.
Stewardship is acknowledging that God is the source of each gift that has been received and each possession that has been accumulated.
Orthodox Christian Stewardship reminds us that these gifts are not our own; that we have a trusteeship over them and not an ownership. Stewardship means to give back to God, as a direct way of expressing our thanksgiving to Him for these gifts. Therefore, we give back to God a meaningful portion of our time, talents and financial resources.
When we share our knowledge or talent and give some of our time to parish projects that are important to us, we join others in work and fellowship and we feel rewarded through helping to achieve our own goals and those of the parish. There are numerous opportunities to volunteer. Every aspect of the parish needs and benefits from volunteers' efforts, from worship to religious education to parish events to outreach to various forms of ministry.
Our Church also relies upon the generous financial giving of its stewards. Since the Church's mission is salvation, it is our sacred responsibility to fund all of the ministries of our Parish, Metropolis and Archdiocese through our financial giving. We should not depend upon special events to meet our budget.
Before completing and mailing the Commitment Card and Family Information Form to the Church Office, please give the matter of your Orthodox Christian Stewardship Commitment your most serious and prayerful consideration. The financial level at which you arrive and the manner in which you choose to volunteer should be a spiritual expression of gratitude and love to God for all you have received.
Thank you for your generosity! Your giving strengthens the Church and helps accomplish God's work.
